Many outlets are predicting a heavy, blustery winter ahead for the Washington, DC and surrounding areas. That means wet, wintery weather ahead for your holiday travel and road trips. Here’s what the experts are saying about winter weather forecasts in the DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia areas:
The Farmer’s Almanac is predicting a “Winter Wonderland” with a combination of global weather phenomena like El Nino and a potential Polar Vortex unleashing freezing blasts across the Eastern US.
The National Weather Service predicts warmer than normal temperatures for most of the country, and wetter than average conditions across the Central and Southeast United States. There are several factors affecting weather patterns this winter, including El Nino and several Oscillations that influence where cold air fluctuates in different areas.
They note that this will be the first El Nino since the 2018-2019 season - which was a “weak” El Nino. The last “strong” El Nino was in 2015-2016.
The Washington Post also recently interviewed five weather experts on their perspective and forecasting for the upcoming winter season. Read more here.
