Frequently Asked Questions
What are O2 Sensors?
O2 sensors do exactly what their name suggests- measure oxygen. Specifically, the oxygen in your vehicle’s exhaust. It plays a role in fuel efficiency, and most vehicles have two (some havve four) - typically, one “upstream” sensor that measures oxygen before the catalytic converter, and one “downstream” sensor that measures oxygen after the exhaust has passed through.
How often do I need to replace my O2 sensors?
Always check your specific vehicle’s manual, but generally a new O2 sensor will last 60,000 - 90,000 miles. Of course, if you experience symptoms of a failing sensor or Check Engine Light before then, you may need to replace it sooner.
How do I know if I need new O2 sensors?
As mentioned above, sometimes you’ll know you need to address your O2 sensors by using an ODB scanning tool that tells you. Other times, you’ll experience symptoms like rough idling/driving, exhaust odors or dark smoke.
“My Mazda had the check engine light and was sputtering over 20 mph. Daniel P provided me with the name of a tow service and explained how picking up the car, inspecting the issues, and then providing an estimate can all be done without my ever leaving the house (except to give the tow truck driver my keys). After I got my assessment of problems in a well-laid-out estimate, I accepted the charges in the invoice digitally (but didn't pay until the day the service was completed). The day I paid, they put me on the scheduled to deliver my car back to my house. It was an end-to-end perfect experience. The People (Daniel P and team), the Process (all digital) was A1.”
