RODA SERVICE

Replace Alternator

Your alternator powers your vehicle’s electrical systems and keeps the battery charged while you drive. When it starts to fail, you may notice dim lights, warning indicators, or a car that won’t start after short trips.

THE RODA WAY

Our Alternator Replacement service restores proper charging performance and prevents unexpected breakdowns — ensuring your car runs reliably every time. We believe in hospitality and transparency — you’ll always know exactly what we’re doing and why it matters.

Why Estimates May Vary

$540 - $1350 with RodaCare

$600 - $1,500

Our goal is full transparency — pricing may vary based on:

  • Vehicle design and engine layout (some alternators require more labor to access)
  • Part type (OEM vs. remanufactured alternators can affect total cost)
  • Electrical system complexity (vehicles with dual batteries or start-stop systems may require additional steps)

We’ll always provide an exact quote after inspection — no surprises, ever.

When You Need This

A failing alternator can cause a range of electrical and starting issues — here’s what to look for:

Battery Warning Light On

One of the most common signs — the light may flicker or stay on as charging voltage drops.

Dim or Flickering Lights

If headlights or dashboard lights fade, it’s often due to inconsistent alternator output.

Electrical Accessories Acting Up

Power windows, stereo, or air conditioning may lose power or work intermittently.

Difficulty Starting or Dead Battery

A weak alternator can’t recharge the battery, leaving you stranded even after jump-starting.

Ignoring alternator problems can lead to a drained battery and complete vehicle shutdown. It can also damage sensitive electrical components due to fluctuating voltage. Replacing it promptly keeps your charging system stable and reliable.

How This is Done

We replace alternators using precision and care to ensure your entire charging system works correctly.

1. Test Charging System

Verify the alternator is the cause of the issue, not the battery or wiring.

2. Disconnect Battery Safely

Protects the electrical system during service.

3. Remove Old Alternator

Access and detach belts, wiring, and mounts.

4. Install New Alternator

Fit a high-quality OEM or equivalent part with fresh hardware.

5. Test Voltage Output

Confirm proper charging and system stability.

6. Final System Check

Ensure the battery, belts, and connections are all functioning as intended.

“Roda was a great service. I hit a pothole and had a blow out. They came and picked the car up downtown, fixed it, and dropped it back at my house. I'll definitely check them out again.”

It's not recommended. You can still drive (read: make the car move) with a bad alternator, but it’s a gamble, and a potentially fatal one at highway speeds. If your alternator is failing, it means that your car can stall out suddenly and there may not be any immediate warning signs that it's about to happen. A working alternator is a critical component of your vehicle.

It's not possible to jump start an alternator. You can jump start a battery, but the alternator is an electric generator that does not store electricity. It supplies power to the entire electrical system while the engine is running and recharges the battery while in operation. If you were to jump start a car that had a faulty alternator, it is possible it may start, but it would eventually stop running when the remaining power in the battery is exhausted.

We’ll test both to confirm. A weak alternator often causes the same symptoms as a dead battery.

Yes, if it shows signs of wear. We’ll inspect it during the replacement.

We offer both options, always using parts that meet or exceed OEM specifications.

All battery replacements are backed by our Roda 12-month / 12,000-mile warranty, covering both parts and labor for your peace of mind.
